The UBC School of Kinesiology is committed to fostering and maintaining a host of partnerships throughout the community. Healthies Babies Possible

Short Description:
A group of students in Dr. Paul Kennedy’s KIN 469 class completed a community service learning project concerning exercise and health during and after pregnancy. Seven students worked with the community partner Healthiest Babies Possible, a free, confidential, multilingual support program for pregnant women and families with children up to six months old.  The students designed a short exercise program for pregnant and post-natal women that included safe and effective exercises including three main features to prevent injury and teach proper habits: bird dogs, aerobic training, and walking. They delivered this program in person and left Healthiest Babies Possible with a brochure and videos so the students’ work could be delivered to women after the completion of their term work with the community partner.

ICORD is a world leading health research centre focused on spinal cord injury. From the lab-based cellular level of understanding injury to rehabilitation and recovery, researchers focus on developing new treatments, strategies and cures from the time of trauma to post injury recovery. Located at Vancouver General Hospital in the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre, ICORD is supported by UBC Faculties of Medicine and Science, the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and the Rick Hansen Foundation.
