Job description

Special Olympics BC – North Vancouver is looking for a positive and enthusiastic Program Leader for their youth programs, Active Start and FUNdamentals. These programs are aimed at young athletes with intellectual disabilities from the ages of 2-6 and 7-11. As Program Leader, you will be helping these young athletes develop their fundamental motor skills such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching. We're looking for Program Leader who is at least 19 years of age, and Program Volunteers who are at least 16 years of age. We also ask that you are patient, creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated to being at this weekly program.

As a Program Leader, you will be required to attend and run a weekly program with the help of other program volunteers. You will also take care of some administrative duties that may include ensuring medical forms are up to date, attendance, and lesson planning.

This position is perfect for an individual who has experience working with children, particularly someone who may be an early childhood educator or thinking about going into this or similar fields. A general sport background would also be an asset but you certainly do not have to be an expert at any particular sport!

This is an extremely fun program and there is no doubt that you won't love every week you spend with these 'athletes in training'.

Hours/time commitment

1.5 hours/week [Sept.17 – March 25]
