How to Apply

The following steps are for Canadian high school, international high school, Canadian post-secondary and international post-secondary applicants. Mature students and visiting students have different application processes.

The online application for UBC's Vancouver campus opens mid-August and closes on January 15th. The application deadline for the Summer session (May to August) is mid-January. However, applications will remain open for Visiting, Unclassified, and Access Studies applicants.

Admissions decisions for most programs are made in April or early May.

In order to assess your preparedness for university, UBC will evaluate you on a broad range of criteria including your academic achievements and personal experiences. That's where the Personal Profile section of UBC's online application comes in.

Knowing more about you through your Personal Profile helps UBC determine whether you will flourish here - not just because of your grades, but also because of the experiences and ambition you bring with you.

The Personal Profile is required of all high school students applying to all UBC programs on the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. The Personal Profile is also required of all transfer applicants into the Bachelor of Commerce & Kinesiology programs on the Vancouver campus, and Nursing & Education students on the Okanagan campus.

If you plan to live in residence at UBC, apply for housing at the same time you apply for admission. Many first-year students are guaranteed a place in residence as long as they meet the housing requirements.

There is a non-refundable application fee. Check and pay your fees on the Student Services website.

It is important to keep communication lines open with UBC and the School of Kinesiology. Admissions will communication with you through a variety of channels, including email, the Student Services Centre, and their website. UBC is even on Facebook and Twitter. Regular updates are posted on the UBC Admissions Blog also.

As email is UBC's primary method of communication about important dates, deadlines, and documents required, you should regularly check your inbox.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email informing you of your required documents along with information on when you will need to send them.

As part of the admissions process to UBC, you are required to submit transcript and/or grade information. However, you do not need to send your documents in order to complete the online application.

If your application is eligible, the Undergraduate Admissions Office may request unofficial academic information such as faxed, scanned/uploaded documents or self-reported grades to begin an admissions evaluation. Admissions decisions made on unofficial documents must be confirmed with official academic information as outlined below. In the event that a discrepancy exists between unofficial or self-reported information and official documentation, UBC will use the official documentation to reassess your eligibility for admission.
