A Warm Welcome to Rachel Dickens, PhD Student

A warm welcome to Rachel Dickens who joins the School of Kinesiology to pursue her Ph.D.

Rachel is from Prince Rupert, BC, and is of mixed ancestry, including East Asian and Tsimshian, a member of the Lax Kw’alaams Band. She holds a Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics and works alongside the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations as a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) with the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC).

She is based out of the unceded and ancestral homelands of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, also known as Tofino. Working with Robert Boushel and Jeff Reading (Affiliate Professor), Rachel’s research area is in the role of traditional foods and land-based physical activity in diabetes prevention in Indigenous communities. See a message from Rachel here:
