McKay, Roger

Graduating year: 1966
Degree: BPE
Prior to his 30 year career in teaching and coaching, Roger benefitted from UBC life, taking his courses from great teachers, being a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity plus playing briefly for the UBC Braves J.V. basketball team under the coaching of the legendary, colourful, Peter Mullins


McNiven, Brooks

Graduating year: 2016, 2018
Degree: HPCTL, MHPCTL
He is also the owner and Director of Inside Performance, an indoor baseball training centre; and has participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a member of the Canadian Men's Baseball team. He hopes to have the opportunity to coach with the Junior National team in the coming years.


McNulty, Bill

Graduating year: 1968
Degree: BPE
Bill McNulty is known for service to his community as a teacher, sports aficionado and city councillor. His story begins as a member of the UBC Physical Education (Kinesiology) class graduating in 1968 with a Masters in 1970.


McTavish, Spence

Graduating year: 1973
Degree: BPE
International matches were a large component of Spence’s career as through the 1970s and into the 1980s he played over 50 games for Canada and over 100 games for BC. He captained Canada until 1982 and was awarded 23 caps honouring his full international test matches.


Mendoza, Angelo

Graduating year: 2019
Degree: MHPCTL
Angelo is a High School teacher with over 21 years of experience. He has coached karate at both the provincial and national level. Angelo has competed at local and provincial level and earned his black belt 5th Degree. He has been exposed to many teaching and coaching styles that gave him the foundation to developed his own coaching style that proved to be very successful for his future students and athletes.


Miles, Rosalin

Graduating year: 1998
Degree: MHK
Congratulations to Dr. Rosalin Miles for receiving the Hidden Heroes 2019 Award. Former Chief, Gail Sparrow of the Musqueam band, nominated Rosalin for her role in shaping the non-profit, hosting the annual National Indigenous Physical Activity & Wellness conference.


Miscisco, Dan

Graduating year: 1985
Degree: BPE
Since attaining his degree Dan taught and coached on the lower mainland inspiring students with his passion and unconventional delivery of his messages. Coaching basketball and volleyball are his specialties which culminated in his induction into the British Columbia Basketball Hall of Fame as a builder.


Mitchell, Reid

Graduating year: 1949
Degree: BPE
It was the previous year, 1948, that Reid played for the UBC team that won the Canadian basketball Olympic qualifying tournament. UBC’s victory meant Reid and his ‘Bird teammates, coached by Physical Education director Bob Osborne, were Canada’s basketball representatives at the 1948 London Olympics.


Mohammed, Paula

Graduating year: 1994
Degree: BHK
Upon graduating, Paula says, “In the 90’s, event management barely existed as a career and there were very few opportunities in Vancouver to work in the field of sports marketing. I was lucky to secure a job with the one sport marketing company in the city at that time.” Paula founded In My Kitchen Inc, three years ago and reflects, “Growing up in a culturally diverse household with many passionate cooks, I came to cherish the experiences I had around the kitchen table, and that is how In My Kitchen was born.


Morrow, Al

Graduating year: 1979
Degree: BPE
Morrow’s UBC rowing experience was an early chapter in what would evolve to become one of Canada’s most impressive coaching resumes. For five decades Morrow either rowed for or coached Canada’s National team with his teams winning eighteen medals at World Championships in addition to four golds, one silver and eight bronze in Olympic competition.
