Diewert, Gordon (1951-1981)

Graduating year: 1973
Degree: BPE
Described as a prolific scholar with wide-ranging interests, Dr. Diewert also worked on issues such as reaction times in people who had been drinking. He was involved in the development of employment screening programs and was the author of several articles in academic journals.


Dodhia, Sanaah

Graduating year: 2015
Degree: BKin
Sanaah was an active leader in various UBC establishments, including UBC REC, Active Kids, the Kin Advising Office, Ritsumeikan-UBC House and Fraser Hall. She was also one of Make Your Mark UBC’s key leaders and lobbied for the School’s future home, the UBC Gateway Building.


Dowdeswell, Jennifer

Graduating year: 2001
Degree: BHK
Through her own personal experience Jennifer became aware of the immense challenge for those diagnosed and their families. She created 5 Free Documents aimed to help people with some basics, such as what signs to watch out for, top 10 signs of caregiver stress, and how to best communicate with someone with dementia.


Dragomir, Gerry

Graduating year: 2021
Degree: MHPCTL
As the head coach of Racewalk West, Gerry Dragomir coaches four international-level racewalk athletes. One of those athletes is Evan Dunfee, who won bronze for the men’s 50km walk at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. After graduating from the HPCTL program, Gerry hopes to “complete a doctoral program in the near future” and eventually conduct a documentary on his “40+ yearlong [career] as a sports coach.”


Drake, Clare (1928-2018)

Graduating year: 1951
Degree: BPE
Clare Drake is one of UBC Kinesiology’s most acclaimed graduates. A native of Saskatchewan, Clare, in 1947, chose to come to UBC because of its newly-created Kinesiology program – the first such program in Western Canada.


Durante, Dave

Graduating year: 1976
Degree: BPE
Dave Durante, a 1976 UBC Physical Education graduate, ranks as one of this faculty’s most versatile athletes, which is saying something.


Eatmon, Rebekah

Graduating year: 2009
Degree: BHK
Rebekah is currently a Family Medicine Resident at UBC in the Vancouver Indigenous site. Her program is a small distributed program, with strong ties to Indigenous communities. “I am learning how our preceptors help to build strength at a community level by building up individuals. As a multitude of our patients have experienced trauma, building safe spaces in health care is of utmost importance,” she says.


Eleiter, Amelia

Graduating year: 2001
Degree: BHK
With entrepreneurial blood in the family, in 2008, Amelia and co-founder Wes Baker, launched Cinder Creative Inc. which would later become Debrand Services Inc. In 2013, the two serial entrepreneurs established Reiten Right Equestrian Inc. the creator of an innovative equestrian footing product derived from recycled natural rubber yoga mats


Engelson, Monte (1939-2021)

Graduating year: 1962
Degree: BPE
Monte Engelson graduated with a Bachelors of Physical Education in 1962, and soon become a physical education teacher at Mount Elizabeth Secondary School. This was just to be the start of his long journey in education. Having discovered his passion for teaching, Monte returned to UBC to obtain a degree in the Faculty of Education.


Ernsting, Mark

Graduating year: 1999
Degree: BHK
In his athletic career, Mark is an accomplished; five time Canadian National Track Cycling Champion. As an athlete, he has had the privilege of representing cycling teams in North America, Europe, and was part of the Canadian National Team.
