Effects of Resistance Training “Exercise Snacks” on Muscle Hypertrophy and Strength

We are looking for adult volunteers between the ages of 19-39 years who live, work, or study in or near the Gateway Health Building (5955 University Blvd) to take part in a study that examines the effects of exercise frequency on muscle size and strength. Participants must have little or no resistance training experience, non-smokers, and not currently diagnosed with type 1 or 2 diabetes, cancer, or other major diseases.

You will be asked to complete a customized 10-week resistance training program, and all training sessions will be done in the exclusive Bodyworks Gymnasium (in the Gateway Health Building). You will be randomly assigned to either the group thatexercises twice per week (~60 minutes each), or completes 10 mini-workouts per week (~12 minutes each). Before and after the 10-week training program, we will measure your muscle size and strength

Your participation would involve 1 week of baseline testing (approximately 5 hours), 10 weeks of resistance training (approximately 21 hours), and 1 week of post-intervention testing (approximately 4 hours), for a total of approximately 30 hours.

In appreciation for your time, you will receive a copy of your own muscle size data, muscle strength data, and physical activity profile upon completion if your participation in the study.
