Minor in Commerce

Enrolment in this program is strictly limited to 25 students and an application is necessary. Online application forms will be available from April 15th to May 15th only through the link provided on this page below. Applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on May 15th.

In light of the current situation around COVID-19 and Academic Concession options for 2020 Winter Term 2 (January 2021 – April 2021), please note that there may be changes or delays in the way that we will evaluate admission to the BKIN Minor in Commerce program for 2021/22W. We will update applicants with information if necessary. Please direct additional inquiries to kin.advising@ubc.ca.

Who is eligible?

  • Applicants must be completing an undergraduate degree in the School of Kinesiology.
  • Students wanting a foundation in business management are encouraged to consider the “Minor in Commerce.” Enrolment in this program is limited to students eligible for third-year standing, with a cumulative average of at least 68% in the previous two years.
  • Admission to the program requires completion of:
    • ECON 101 (3)
    • ECON 102 (3)
    • one of MATH 100 (3), 102 (3), 104 (3), 120 (3), 180 (4), or 184 (4)

Upon successful admission to the program, it will consist of:

  • COMR 329 (3)
  • COMR 457 (3)
  • COMR 465 (3)
  • COMR 473 (3)
  • COMR 493 (3)
  • one of COMR 398 (3) or COMR 458 (3)

Applicants will be informed by e-mail in mid-June if they have been selected for the minor program, been placed on a waiting list, or have not qualified for either the minor program or the waiting list.

Before you apply, ensure that your 3rd and 4th year program requirements do not conflict with the Minor.

Note that the credits required for admission to the program and the upper-level 18 credits required for the Minor must be percentage-graded, and cannot be taken as Credit/D/Fail.

Upon successful completion of the Minor program, the notation of “Minor in Commerce” will be added to the student’s transcript.
