Previous Stream Requirements

The following are program stream requirements for students who entered their BKIN 2018W or earlier.

This stream of study prepares students for advanced studies in human movement science and health and fitness, and for future certification and work as a Kinesiologist. The Kinesiology and Health Science stream is an accredited program certified by the Canadian Council of University Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrator (CCUPEKA).

Program Planning Notes

  • In order to obtain third year standing in Kinesiology and Health Science, students must complete 12 credits of first year Science in their first two years in at least three of the following four areas: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
  • Students planning to apply to professional health science programs such as Physiotherapy and Medicine are strongly encouraged to determine the necessary undergraduate requirements that are available in other faculties such as Science and Arts.
  • Students in the Kinesiology and Health Science stream must, as a minimum, complete an additional 18 credits of Science, of which at least 12 credits must be at the 300/400 level and must be recognized in the Faculty of Science as credits that could be used towards a Bachelor of Science Degree.
  • All students must complete 30 credits of KIN courses at the 300/400 level.
  • All students must complete 48 credits at the 300/400 level.
  • Students are able to complete arts, commerce, nutritional sciences or science Minors.

The Physical and Health Education (PEDH) stream prepares students for leadership and instructional careers in a variety of physical activity and sport settings in both public and private agencies. Students in the PEDH program who wish to enter the faculty of education to pursue school-based physical education teaching careers, following completion of the BKIN, will have fulfilled Faculty of Education admission requirements through the course requirements of the PEDH stream. The Physical and Health Education stream is an accredited program certified by the Canadian Colleges and Universities Physical Education and Kinesiologists Association (CCUPEKA).

  • Students planning to enter the Teacher Education Program in the Faculty of Education need to review the detailed admission requirements.
  • Students planning to apply for the secondary option must prepare a second teaching field.
  • Students in the Physical and Health Education (PEDH) stream must complete a minimum of 18 credits of non-KIN electives, of which at least 12 credits must be at the 300/400 level.
  • All students must complete 30 credits of KIN at the 300/400 level.
  • All students must complete 48 credits at the 300/400-level.

This stream offers increased flexibility for students, allowing them to choose electives that suit their interests and career pursuits. This stream prepares students for the kinesiology career of their choice or for advanced studies in liberal arts or sciences. Students are able to complete Minors in Land and Food Systems, science, arts, or commerce.
