Isabella Funa, 4th year Kinesiology, Interdisciplinary Stream.

Isabella’s desire to protect her mother during COVID19 demonstrates that acts of love have powerful ripple effects. Modelling service and support,  Isabella established a project called Supply The Frontlines. As a result of her efforts,  over 1000 items have been donated to the BC Children’s, Lions Gate, Surrey Memorial, and Royal Columbian Hospitals.

Isabella Funa is a fourth-year Kinesiology student in the Interdisciplinary Stream who plans to graduate in 2021. The field of Kinesiology has always intrigued Isabella and has nurtured a keen interest in the physiology of the human body since high school. Once she graduates, she hopes to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy or Registered Massage Therapy.

In response to the COVID19 outbreak, Isabella and a group of friends (Frank Jia, and siblings Mikey and Tricia Jose) jointly established a project called Supply The Frontlines.

The inception of ‘Supply The Frontlines’ arose during the COVID outbreak when Isabella’s mother told her she wished the oncology clinic, where she worked, had the resources to purchase scrubs for its staff.

In an attempt to help solve her mother’s situation, Isabella emailed local and national businesses to source donations for her mother’s clinic. Isabella eventually realized that these resource shortages extended way beyond her mother’s workplace. Hospitals and other facilities across the lower mainland were experiencing severe resource shortages in everything from personal protective equipment to cleaning supplies.

With her mother in mind, Isabella has made it her goal to connect mission-aligned businesses (who can provide their products for free or by discount) with BC healthcare facilities in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. By doing this, she hopes that she can provide some financial relief for local businesses in the lower mainland while simultaneously providing resources for healthcare facilities.

To date, Supply the Frontlines has donated over 1000 items to BC Children’s, Lions Gate, Surrey Memorial, and Royal Columbian Hospitals. Isabella and her team are actively soliciting donations to their GoFundMe Campaign so that they may continue to gather resources for healthcare facilities around the lower mainland.

Isabella states that “As someone who hopes to work in healthcare in the future, I encourage others to lend a helping hand to those in need during this time. I believe that it is important for all of us to step up and help one another during this period of uncertainty.”
