Mind in Motion

Mind in Motion is an evidence-based exercise program for UBC students with depressive symptoms. This 6-week exercise program includes two one-hour sessions per week. The exercise programming includes a range of strength and aerobic exercises, and is tailored towards the student’s goals.

*A referral from a mental health practitioner at UBC Counselling services is required to participate in Mind in Motion.

Features:

  • Exercise is recognized in Canada as a front-line treatment for mild-to-moderate depression. This program offers a safe, evidence based treatment option for students in a supportive environment.
  • Exercise can help to boost confidence and to feel in control of your own health.
  • Participation in this program can co-occur with other treatment options (e.g. medication or talk therapy)
  • Personal trainers have received additional training on mental health literacy.

For active Mind in Motion participants, register for a session:

  • Login to your Account in our Online Registration System. If you have not received your login information, please contact us.
  • View and register for your session on our Online Calendar.

Our certified Personal Trainers offer fitness assessments & individualized, evidence-based programs to help you meet your fitness goals. Working with a Personal Trainer can accelerate your progress and our semi-private and small group training sessions make private training more fun and accessible.

Our Personal Trainers are certified through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology and are qualified to train healthy people and also people with one stable chronic condition. They are also certified in First Aid and CPR with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
