Getting Started in UBC Kinesiology

UBC Orientations
Jump Start is a multi-day orientation program for first year students, and Imagine Day occurs the day before classes start for all new KIN students! Both programs will help you get acquainted with campus, the KIN program, and some of your professors and classmates!
Collegia
Designed for first year commuter students, Collegia is a space to connect with other commuter students, get support from upper-level students, and relax in between classes.
New to UBC Page
From getting your Compass card set up for public transit, to sorting out your finances and housing, this page has all the information you need to know as an incoming UBC student!
UBC Wayfinding
UBC Wayfinding is a helpful tool for navigating campus and mapping routes between classes, so hopefully you don’t get too lost!
International and Indigenous Student Resources
The Indigenous Student Portal and International Student Guide are great resources to check out for events, extra support, and community building.
KINformed Newsletter
KINformed is the monthly newsletter sent to you by the School of Kinesiology. It contains everything you need to know as a KIN student, including school announcements and news, student opportunities, and important deadlines, so keep an eye on your inbox!
Academic Planning and Support
Kinesiology Undergraduate Advising
If you have questions about degree requirements, course planning, or the academic resources available to you, the KIN Undergraduate Advising Team is here to help! They’re available via email, or you can visit the team during their office hours. If you want to get a head start, check out the course requirements for your KIN degree, as well as your specific stream.
KPAC
The Kinesiology Peer Academic Coaches (KPAC) are another great resource, offering free academic support to any Kinesiology students through 1-on-1 coaching sessions, workshops, and more!
UBC Centre for Accessibility
The UBC Centre for Accessibility provides accommodations and programming designed to remove barriers for students with learning disabilities and ongoing medical conditions, making university life more manageable and accessible.
UBC Grading Scale
When it comes to grades, UBC’s letter grades and corresponding 4.3 GPA scale are probably very different from what you’ve encountered in high school, so this grade conversion chart is handy to refer back to!
Academic Calendar
First year takes a lot of getting used to, and you might end up dropping a course or two, which is totally normal! Just make sure you check the Academic Calendar for class drop deadlines (as well as midterm breaks and exam periods)! You should also consult with KIN Advising to make sure you are still meeting your BKin requirements.
