Graduating Year: 2020
Hometown: Vancouver, BC
Stream: Interdisciplinary Studies
Employer: CHANGE BC
Position Title: Student Kinesiologist
As Student Kinesiologist with CHANGE BC, Harry worked with people, as prescribed by the local physician, as an exercise specialist. Along with the daily work he did with CHANGE BC, he looked for various projects in the community to help other members that are not a part of the program. “Some of these projects included working with the local sports team as an off-ice trainer, being part of a youth committee set to help the teenagers in community be more active and engaged, and worked with the elderly in the day program,” says Harry.
Harry enjoyed the amount of flexibility he has in his position. He met a variety of different people with different needs. “My favourite part was working with everyday people on a regular basis and seeing the changes and progress they were able to make regularly.” He says that being around health specialists for so much of his day allowed him to gain valuable experience for his future career.
Stationed in Houston, BC, Harry enjoyed working with the people in Northern BC. “Everyone was really helpful and friendly,” he says. “Along with that, winter activities in the North are really cheap and accessible!”
When we asked him why he thought a student should apply for this job, he said that working with CHANGE BC allows a student to gather a wealth of experience in all professions within the health sector, while building communication and interpersonal skills with patients. “Working with CHANGE allowed me to expand my knowledge in a lot of avenues, providing more information about the health sector while giving me exposure to the careers I might be interested in going into the future.”
