Abstract:
Background: The monitoring of training load and body composition provides an informative, comprehensive assessment of training effectiveness and adaptive response to improve athlete management and development, both as a team and individually.
Objectives: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to synthesize the current literature regarding the effects of team sport training and competition load on changes in body composition.
Methods:A systematic search will be completed according to PRISMA guidelines in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and SPORTDiscus databases using a comprehensive search strategy to identify articles that examine the relationship between training load and changes in body composition in team sport athletes.
Significance/Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis will provide the first quantitative synthesis of the relationship between training load and changes in body composition in team sport. Findings from this work aim to inform effective monitoring practices for coaches and sports science practitioners across team sports.
