Community, Sport, and Physical Literacy Programs

An overarching philosophy that guides our programming is an emphasis on positive sport experiences, physical literacy development, and encouragement for life-long participation in physical activity.

Under the guidance and leadership of the UBC School of Kinesiology, Active Kids collaborates with various local communities to create custom physical activity programming. Working together with our partners, programs are designed to provide developmentally appropriate sport and physical literacy based experiences to participants of all ages and levels of ability while also meeting the unique needs and objectives of our partners and their communities.

All programs are led by UBC Kinesiology student instructors and volunteers. Where appropriate, and in addition to our standard Coach training workshops, Active Kids works with our communities to create custom training opportunities in order for our Instructors to learn about the community and its participants. This allows Kinesiology students to engage, connect, teach, and learn from our partners through sport and physical activity. These experiential learning opportunities bring value to all involved and is a priority objective for all of our community programs.
