Inaugural Professorial Lecture: Dr. Janice Forsyth

My research into Indigenous physical culture has been shaped by many factors – some personal, some professional, and some from just plain serendipity. In this ‘inaugural lecture’ I reflect on how I came to focus on this highly specialized area of study and what it has taught me about complex societal issues like Indigenous cultural resurgence, health, and sovereignty.

Dr. Janice Forsyth, member of the Fisher River Cree Nation, is a Professor in Indigenous Land-Based Physical Culture and Wellness in the School of Kinesiology, Faculty of Education, at UBC.
