Engelson, Monte (1939-2021)

Monte Engelson graduated with a Bachelors of Physical Education in 1962, and soon become a physical education teacher at Mount Elizabeth Secondary School. This was just to be the start of his long journey in education. Having discovered his passion for teaching, Monte returned to UBC to obtain a degree in the Faculty of Education.
Oliveira, Justin

Justin Oliveira is currently the High Performance Director (HPD) at Water Polo Canada. Throughout his career, Justin worked with the Women’s and Men’s Senior Water Polo Programs and attended many World Championships, World League Finals, Olympic Qualification Tournaments and three Pan American Games.
MacLean, Heather

We caught up with Heather who told us, “Growing up, sports played a large role in my home as my parents enrolled me into everything from dancing, gymnastics, soccer, hockey to swimming.” But at the age of 8, Heather started swimming competitively for the Etobicoke Swim club, and as she says “the rest is history!”
Averill, Michael

Michael Averill is recognized as a KIN Community Champion who is utilizing his creativity to uplift us and bring us together in community, in the face of the social isolation of COVID. He demonstrates leadership and service by offering free, live online performances and jam sessions for everyone to participate in and express their feelings through music!
Parelkar, Soham

During his undergraduate studies, rather than sticking to physical health-focused electives, Soham chose diverse topics such as biomedical ethics, history, and global nutrition. Soham believes that the option to pick wide-ranging courses in the kinesiology program enhanced his experience in two primary ways.
Abele, Natalie

Notably, she successfully managed the implementation of a foundational inclusion training called All Youth Matter. The program was developed by viaSport to equip sport and recreation leaders to make a difference in the lives of diverse youth in their community, and has now been delivered to over 1200 participants in more than 65 workshops around BC.
From 1975 through 1986 Shelley was a member of Canada’s National team – her 12 years being the most of any BC woman in this sport.
Maliha, Kate

After graduating in 2010, Kate founded Love Your Age Fitness Inc. Bringing her education into practice, Kate and her team have developed inclusive, unique and creative exercise spaces and programs for older adults.
Chong, Tyler

Tyler works in orthopaedic clinics that specialize in the management of sport and work related injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and vestibular conditions. Tyler’s treatment philosophy revolves around the body’s natural ability to adapt and recover. As a result, he prioritizes the return to normal movement patterns by creating individualized exercise programs for all his patients.
Eleiter, Amelia

With entrepreneurial blood in the family, in 2008, Amelia and co-founder Wes Baker, launched Cinder Creative Inc. which would later become Debrand Services Inc. In 2013, the two serial entrepreneurs established Reiten Right Equestrian Inc. the creator of an innovative equestrian footing product derived from recycled natural rubber yoga mats
