Stadnyk, David

For more than 30 years, as of 2018, David Stadnyk has, in addition to founding many companies, provided leadership, investment and development in the biotech, pharmaceutical and resource sectors. A 1986 UBC graduate in Physical Education Stadnyk played tennis for UBC when tennis was a high-profile sport on campus. Following graduation Stadnyk embarked upon a career in the market and soon established Stadnyk and Partners Venture Capital investing in both pharmaceutical and energy companies from which has flourished his impressive entrepreneurial career.

Meanwhile, Stadnyk has always had a passion for sport, particularly the promotion and development of sport in Canada. In 1998 David formed Starlight Sports and Entertainment at which time he co-founded TEAM 1040, Vancouver’s popular all-sport radio station. He also launched and was co-owner of the Vancouver Ravens of the National Lacrosse League, working to preserve professional lacrosse in Canada. Although the team ultimately folded, pro lacrosse and the NLL have since done well in Canada.

1970s brand, an endeavour which facilitated the resurgence of both soccer and the Whitecaps. He is also the founder of the Vancouver Angels/Breakers, Vancouver’s first women’s professional soccer team. For young players of this sport he has offered youth soccer promotion, training and guidance through the initiative ProWave which he started.

David’s legacy continues through his success as an entrepreneur, his community sport creations and the Stadnyk Foundation which supports children’s participation in sport, an integral component of our physical education.
