Haar, John

Graduating year: 1968
Degree: BPE
As a student at UBC Haar can be considered one of the Blue & Gold’s greatest athletes. He was a record-setting T-Bird soccer player on some great UBC teams. As a Varsity football player he was pursued by the BC Lions and actually received a contract offer to play for the Dallas Cowboys. But Haar’s best sport was baseball as he played on UBC’s baseball team during the 1960s under coach Frank Gnup.


Haggarty, Cait

Graduating year: 2008
Degree: BPE
Cait Haggarty, a Victoria native and 2008 UBC Kinesiology graduate, has the distinction of being an integral member of three Canadian champion UBC basketball teams.


Hansen, Rick

Graduating year: 1986
Degree: BPE
Rick Hansen remains one of UBC’s most renowned graduates as the 1986 Physical Education alumnus’ story has been so well documented. But because this man decided to take on challenges rather than avoid them, fight self-pity and despair and because of his resulting motivational and fund-raising accomplishments, we sometimes overlook the fact Rick was one of Canada’s most remarkable athletes.


Hanson, Jessica

Graduating year: 2020
Degree: BKin
Recently, Jess has taken part in Vancouver Basketball Foundation’s monthly Grow The Game Women’s Roundtable events, discussing various topics with other female coaches and leaders across the province and country.


Hanson, Kevin

Graduating year: 1988
Degree: BPE
Always providing fans with competitive and exciting teams, Kevin has coached the Thunderbirds to five Canada West titles in addition to three consecutive medal finishes at the CIS (USports) national championships.


Hodges, Alastair

Dr. Alastair Hodges, BHK 1998, PhD 2006, is in the midst of a successful academic career. He has earned an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia, a Master’s degree in exercise physiology from McGill University, and a Doctorate in exercise physiology from the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre at UBC. Hodson, Sara

Graduating year: 2002
Degree: BHK
Sara’s diverse experience and ‘go-getter’ attitude have made her clinic a success to date. Currently operating out of White Rock, BC, Live Well Exercise Clinic provides safe, evidence based programming to help increase the quality of health and life for those dealing with diabetes, cancer and heart disease


Holloway, Susan

Graduating year: 1983
Degree: BPE
One of the more impressive UBC Kinesiology graduates is Sue Holloway (1983), an Olympian and multi-talented athlete. While at UBC Sue competed on the cross-country team under coach Doug Clement and the Varsity swim team coached by Jack Kelso.


Hunt, Ted

Graduating year: 1957, 1961
Degree: BPE, MPE
In his graduating year Hunt was awarded the Bobby Gaul award as UBC’s athlete of the year at the same time selected the province’s Athlete of the Year. That summer (1957) Hunt tried out with the BC Lions football team and not only made the team but was named the Lions’ Rookie of the Year. The following year, he was selected the team’s Outstanding Canadian Player of the Year.


Hyun Kyung, Kim

Graduating year: 2014
Degree: BKin
Now graduated, Kim will be seeking work as a Kinesiologist while spending a large portion of her time volunteering for organizations dedicated to humanitarian outreach. Her goal is to work for one of those organizations and ultimately work towards resolving and/or preventing global health issues.
