Iacobellis, Joseph

Graduating year: 1974, 1977
Degree: BPE, MPE
A Vancouver legend in his own right and was dubbed the ‘man with the midas touch’ when it came to the longevity and success of Capilano University’s (formerly Capilano College) athletics program. Retired now since 2016, Joe was Capilano’s second Athletic Director and built an elite soccer program by setting high athletic and academic standards. During his tenure he captured 10 British Columbia Colleges Athletic Association (now PACWEST) championships.

Ip, Alvin

Graduating year: 2012

As an undergraduate student, Ip became passionate about exploring Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, a medical specialty concerned with restoring functional ability and quality of life in patients with neurological and musculoskeletal disabilities.


Jackson, Roger

Graduating year: 1967
Degree: MPE
Dr. Jackson has a most impressive list of honours and acknowledgements including: the BC and UBC Sports Halls of Fame, UBC Alumni Achievement Award, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, the IOC Olympic Order and the Order of Canada.


Jalalpoor, Mackenzie

Mackenzie played on the varsity softball team for 4 years during her time at UBC, and now has her own company called 'Attitude of Gratitude' where her mission is to spread light to others by sharing perspective.


Jalalpoor, Philip

Degree: BKin
Philip played on the varsity basketball team for 3 years during his time at UBC, and after seasons in Spain, Austria, and Germany, he was able to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.


Jameson, Stephanie

Stephanie Jameson, a 2006 UBC Kinesiology graduate, experienced an exceptional Thunderbird athletic career as a field hockey player under coach Hash Kanjee. Not only was she a luminary in this sport but is also unique in that her mother, Sue Rich, was also a field hockey standout preceding Stephanie as a Physical Education (Kinesiology) graduate in 1973.


Jennings, Jim

Graduating year: 2016, 2022
Degree: HPCTL, MHPCTL
Jim Jennings is presently completing his master’s degree in high-performance coaching and technical leadership and will graduate in May 2022. He is the former Chair of Karate Canada’s Long-Term Development (LTD) Committee and a member of the High-Performance Committee. He runs a Karate club in Bradford, Ontario, which offers recreational and high-performance training for athletes competing at both the Provincial and National level.

Christiane “Chrissy” Job graduated from UBC in 2008 with a Masters of Arts in Kinesiology followed by her PhD at the University of Calgary.

Joyce says “as a Strength and Conditioning coach, being able to critically read research and publish research of my own is important to me, and this program gave me the tools to do both.
