Mulcahy, Glen

Graduating year: 1991
Degree: BPE
Glen’s major was in Motor Control and Performance and soon after graduation he began coaching. He has now coached men, women, boys and girls in slow-pitch, hockey, baseball, softball, rugby and ball hockey for more than 2 decades.


Neil, Andrea

Graduating year: 1996
Degree: BHK
Andrea Neil, a 1996 UBC Kinesiology graduate and former star Thunderbird soccer player, has been described by the local media as “. . . a legend with an unimpeachable reputation.”


Ng, Adrienne

Graduating year: 1996
Degree: BHK
Adrienne is currently a keen surfer and adventure traveler and is infectiously happy and positive about running her outdoor company on Pui O Beach, Lantau Island.


Ng, Tobias

Graduating year: 2013, 2020
Degree: BKin, MHPCTL
Tobias was an Olympic athlete in the 2012 Games and is a high-performance coach at the Bellevue Badminton Club in Washington, U.S.A. He currently coaches for the club’s junior badminton program and travels to regional and national competitions with his athletes.


Nickle, Lisa

Graduating year: 1994
Degree: BHK
Since graduation, Lisa, now married with a family, has been a teacher and coach in the Okanagan most recently a learning assistance teacher at a Kelowna elementary school. Her goal while at UBC was to teach physical education to special needs youngsters.


Novak, Mira

Mira Novak is a recent graduate of the High-Performance Coaching and Technical Leadership program (MHPCTL 2022). He is presently the head coach of the NCAA Division I women’s soccer team at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Ohman, Dale

Graduating year: 1969
Degree: BPE
Dale Ohman would appear to have two passions: volleyball and UBC. As a student, Dale played varsity Thunderbird volleyball, a career feature his being a member of the 1966/67 UBC Hall of Fame team – Canadian champions and a team that ultimately changed the way the game of volleyball would be played In Canada.


Olenick, Norm

Graduating year: 1963
Degree: BPE
Over the years Norm helped develop Langara’s Academic Diplomas in Physical Education, Fitness and Leisure studies. He provided advisory and instructional services in these areas to post secondary institutions including UBC’s School of Kinesiology and also coached badminton teams to provincial and national championships.


Oliveira, Justin

Graduating year: 2018
Degree: MHPCTL
Justin Oliveira is currently the High Performance Director (HPD) at Water Polo Canada. Throughout his career, Justin worked with the Women’s and Men’s Senior Water Polo Programs and attended many World Championships, World League Finals, Olympic Qualification Tournaments and three Pan American Games.


Ozkaplan, Atila

Graduating year: 2001
Degree: BHK
When Atila Ozkaplan, BHK 2001 and MSc 2004, arrived in Vancouver from Ontario in 1997, his goal was to become a doctor of Sports Medicine. However, his path shifted significantly when he volunteered with one of his professors, Dr. Ted Rhodes.
