Desi McEwan, 4th Year PhD student in Dr. Mark Beauchamp’s Psychology of Exercise, Health, & Physical Activity (PEHPA) Lab within the School of Kinesiology, has been selected as one of twenty-three recipients of the 2016-2017 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships as awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Desi joins a select group of scholars from across Canada who have been recognized for their record of research excellence and leadership. Desi’s doctoral research focused on teamwork in sport, and was the first within the field of sport psychology to comprehensively examine teamwork.
His post-doctoral research, to be carried out with Dr. Ryan Rhodes at the University of Victoria, will continue to examine teamwork; examining its importance in physical activity contexts. Specifically, he is interested in whether teamwork within grade-school physical education (PE) settings plays a role in fostering important variables such as students’ motivation, confidence, engagement in PE, and, ultimately, physical activity levels.
Congratulations Desi!
